Currently the team at J-Star Marine Services are undertaking a major refit of a Hardy 25 which is involving a major stripping out of the interior, the refit is stripping the boat back to it empty shell and starting again. The only parts that are going back in from the original build are the bulkheads. the rest as been removed and scrapped and new equipment put in its place, a completely new galley area, new navigation equipment and new carpet and side and head linings and new windows and rubber seals. So the team is very busy with this project and the Chance restoration project and the Mai Star II project as well, they are also undertaking a number of smaller project around the two major projects.
There are going to be photos uploaded to the photo gallery.
The Morgan Giles 30 restoration project which as been a keel to deckhead and stem to stern refit is now coming to an end and should be finished next spring So with this in mind we are taking commissions for further large project to come into yard to take its place.
Hardy 25 which is in need of a major refit with the whole of the interior being removed and re-designed to modernise the interior for modern onboard living.
The James Silver "Western Isles" Chance is now back down in Essex near to our own boatyard and workshop. Although when would wish to have her in our own boatyard when do not have the room to fit her in and be able to work on other vessels at the same time. So Chance is in another boatyard close to our own boatyard so we can work on her between other jobs in the yard and workshop.
Work on the other yacht which is a classic east coast Gaff cutter is getting underway as well with the cabin and other deck structure out of the way so that the major work on the hull can begin.
Both the James Silver and the Classic 1930's yacht are featured on their own Patreon Channels https://www.patreon.com/Chance_1948 and on YouTube. It is going to be a 4 to 5 year project for the James Silver, although it is hoped that Classic 1930's yacht should be done over the next 2 years, both boats will involve many different types of boat repairs, carvel planking, double diagonal planking teak deck repairs, electrical and mechanical engineering and rigging and painting using traditional methods as well as modern techniques to bring this fine vessel back to its former glory and to show case the company work.
There will be a Mai Star Class dinghy coming into the workshop for a repaint and varnishing and a mast and sails made before going back to its owner to enjoy the rest of the summer exploring the local creeks and rivers.
Finally we are continuing to mould our 8ft Little Mai general purpose dinghy which comes in number of different trim specifications depending clients requirements.
The business started in 1981 and as been helping clients with their craft since then with their boat repairs on their yachts and motorboats or any boat parts they may need repairing or making. The company is now run by Simon Papendick a skilled boat builder with over 40 years experience in the marine industry.
J-Star Marine Services are now adopting an even more environmentally friendly working practices in line with British Marine & Green Blue guidelines to lower its carbon footprint as low as possible. This includes sourcing the all materials used by the company from sources who follow .
